Emergency Relief and Aid Distribution in Cyclone Storm Biparjoy Potential Affected Areas in the Indus Delta Area – Shah Bandar

To cope with the possible risks posed by Cyclone Storm Biparjoy 2023 (damaging winds, heavy rainfall, storm surge, rough seas, mudslides and flash flooding) in the coastal areas of Sindh, the Government of Sindh has evacuated around 57,000 people in the potential cyclone affected coastal districts of Thatta, Sujawal and Badin in the Indus Delta Area of Sindh Province. Of these evacuated people 15,700 are from the Project Zone.

Being a partner of Government of Sindh, the Indus Delta Blue Carbon Initiative is also complementing the efforts of Government of Sindh in providing emergency relief to the affected people through providing various needed items. Drinking water, food supplies and protection from mosquito bites are high priority needs of the evacuated people. Therefore, the Project is providing drinking water, food items such as biscuits and cakes as well as mosquito nets to these project zone communities in Keti Bandar, Shah Bandar and Kharochan. The aid provided by the project has helped a total of 10,500 people as per following detail:  5,000; 3,000 and 2,500 people in Keti Bandar, Shah Bandar and Kharochan areas respectively. The remaining 5,200 people of the Project Zone had temporarily shifted to their relatives in different parts of the province and therefore were not in need of the assistance provided by the project.
